About the Barbet (Imp)
The Barbet, a French retriever, traces its lineage to at least the 18th century, traditionally flushing waterfowl from wetlands. Europe's original water dog, it likely influenced other breeds. Its French name, 'Le Chien Barbet,' reflects its thick, protective coat and full muzzle. Sturdily built and square, standing around 53–65 cm, this rustic dog thrives in water and mud; its dense coat should remain natural. Amiable, intelligent, and loyal, the Barbet is now prized as a competent field dog and has also demonstrated skill in search and rescue.
