About the Griffon Fauve De Bretagne (Imp)
Hailing from Brittany, this rugged French hound shares its distinctive wiry, reddish-fawn coat with the Basset Fauve. Historically, from the 14th century onwards, these sturdy dogs were employed to hunt wolves. Following the eradication of wolf populations, their numbers significantly dwindled. However, in 1949, devoted enthusiasts successfully rekindled interest and revitalised the breed. Despite its ancient heritage, the Griffon Fauve is a relatively recent addition to British exhibition rings.
