About the Korthals Griffon (Imp)

Originating in the Netherlands, the Korthals Griffon was meticulously developed by Edward Korthals, who aimed to solidify the exceptional working traits of his wire-haired pointing dog. Through careful cross-breeding, likely incorporating other Griffon and German Pointer stock, he established a breed standard by 1870. Korthals’ dedication to his breeding programme earned him a medal from the German Emperor in 1890. Despite some historical intermingling with French gundog lines, leading to occasional claims of French heritage, this robust pointing dog is still widely recognised as having its roots firmly in Holland.
