The intermediate Xoloitzcuintle, or Mexican Hairless dog, is believed to have originated from an ancient Colima dog breed in Western Mexico, with its name meaning 'dog of the god Xolotl'. Historically, this breed, which also has a coated variety, was sadly sometimes used as a food source, but was also thought to possess healing properties, with its warm skin providing comfort for various ailments. These fascinating dogs, appearing in three sizes, have gained a following in the 21st century across Europe and America, making them increasingly popular show dogs.
