Belgian sheepdogs have a history stretching back to the Middle Ages, with four varieties sharing similar physical traits, differentiated by coat and colour. The Laekenois is distinguished by its harsh, wiry coat, typically red or fawn with some black shading, and was favoured by Queen Marie Henriette. These agile, robust dogs are excellent herders, and their intelligence makes them versatile service animals.
