About the Chow Chow
The Chow Chow, or Han Dog, boasts a history spanning two millennia, originating in China as a guard dog and even a food source. Two Chows arrived in Britain in 1780, and Queen Victoria's ownership later sparked public interest. This breed, formally recognised in 1894, is distinctive for its black tongue and gums, a lion-like appearance from its harsh, off-standing coat, and a rather stilted gait. It's a truly unique and dignified companion with ancient roots.
