About the English Setter
The modern English Setter owes its foundation to Edward Laverack, who in 1825 began a selective breeding programme from two blue belton Setters. Richard Purcell Llewellin, a contemporary, further diversified the gene pool by incorporating other Setter types, including the now-extinct Welsh Setter, into Laverack's lines. From these dedicated efforts, the elegant English Setter we know today emerged, a testament to careful breeding for type and quality.
