The English Toy Terrier, once called the miniature Black and Tan, traces its lineage to the Manchester Terrier, a skilled rat killer from the Industrial Revolution. Through miniaturisation, possibly with Italian Greyhound influence, this fine-boned breed with its distinctive candle-flame ears was developed. Despite its reduced size, it retained its vermin-dispatching abilities in the 19th century.
