About the Gordon Setter

The Gordon Setter, a more substantial member of the Setter family, acquired its designation from the Duke of Gordon, who dedicated himself to developing the breed at Gordon Castle in Scotland between 1800 and 1820. While today's Gordons are distinctively black and tan, earlier examples from the Duke's kennels often featured black and white markings, believed to be more visible when working. Through careful selective breeding, the striking black and tan colouring has become the established hallmark of this elegant setter.
