About the Japanese Shiba Inu
The Shiba Inu, whose name translates to 'small dog', was originally bred in Japan to hunt small game birds. This spitz-type dog bears a resemblance to the Akita Inu, albeit in a more compact form, and is characterised by its distinctive urajiro markings and quick, light movement. So cherished was this breed that it received the honour of being designated a National Monument of Japan in 1936, a testament to its enduring appeal and historical significance.
