About the Manchester Terrier
Unlike many terriers, the Manchester Terrier originated in urban settings, developed within Manchester city during the mid-19th century to control rats in burgeoning towns and mills. This efficient hunter, with input from the old Black and Tan Terrier and Whippet blood, could also catch rabbits for supper. Happily, thanks to dedicated breeders, this smart, little black and tan dog, with its unique 'thumb print' markings, is now enjoying renewed popularity for both exhibition and as a family pet.
