About the Maremma Sheepdog
The Maremma Sheepdog is thought to have developed from a cross between ancient white sheepdogs of Abruzzes and the Maremma plains, noted by Roman writers as early as 100BC. The seasonal relocation of flocks is believed to have shaped this breed, much like the origins of the Lancashire Heeler. This impressive dog can still be observed fulfilling its original purpose as a livestock guardian in Northern Italy, a testament to its enduring working heritage.
