About the Mastiff
Mastiff-type dogs have graced Britain since ancient times, initially prized for their considerable size, strength, and bravery. These formidable British dogs were celebrated for their ability to best other large fighting dogs, and later served as guard dogs, gamekeeper's companions, and hunters of wolves, bears, and bulls. Despite a near-extinction event after fighting activities were outlawed in 1835 and wartime losses, North American-bred Mastiffs helped revive the breed in Britain. Though still relatively few, they are cherished by enthusiasts who value their distinct type, robust build, and elegant movement.
