About the Otterhound
The Otterhound's ancestry is thought to include both French and English hounds, giving it a noble French hound-like appearance in its head and expression. This breed was specifically developed for hunting otter, a function for which it is perfectly equipped. Its weather-resistant, oily double coat, webbed feet, well-developed nostrils, and keen scenting abilities make it an excellent water dog. Despite the ban on otter hunting in 1978, dedicated enthusiasts have ensured the survival of this unique and capable hound.
