About the Parson Russell Terrier
Named after the hunting clergyman Reverend John Russell, this terrier's lineage began with his dog, Trump, in 1819, establishing a legacy of sporting terriers. Bred primarily to 'go to ground' for fox or badger, the Parson Russell Terrier needed to be a convenient size for subterranean work, yet also possess the stamina and speed to keep pace with hounds. This tenacious and capable breed is now a firm fixture in the show ring, while still retaining its impressive working abilities.
