About the Poodle (Miniature)
Originating in Germany, the Poodle was initially bred as a water retriever for duck hunters, with ancestors among various European water dogs. The distinctive clip, often seen as a stylish show trim, is actually a traditional and practical design: hindquarters were shorn for easier swimming, while protective bands of hair, now called pom-poms, shielded joints and the tail tip from the cold. Miniature Poodles are a scaled-down version of the larger variety, retaining all the beloved characteristics in a smaller package, making them wonderful companions.
