About the Poodle (Standard)
Hailing from Germany, the Poodle was originally developed as a water retriever, assisting duck hunters. The breed's lineage can be traced back to various European water dogs. Its unique trim, though often considered fashionable, is deeply traditional and practical: the hindquarters were clipped for efficient swimming, whilst bands of hair, now known as pom-poms, were left to protect joints and the tail from cold water. This intelligent and elegant dog continues to be a versatile and much-loved breed.
