About the Rottweiler
The Rottweiler's heritage traces back to Roman army dogs, later developed in Rottweil, Southwest Germany, by cattle dealers and farmers seeking a strong drover's dog and guard dog. These mastiff-type dogs, mixed with sheepdog blood, created a breed that combined athletic movement and stamina with a courageous temperament, famously guarding farmers' money bags on their way home from market. A well-trained Rottweiler, in the hands of responsible owners, makes a wonderful family companion, also serving with distinction in modern armed forces and police work.
