About the Sealyham Terrier
This Welsh breed is named after Sealyham Manor in Pembrokeshire, where Captain John Owen Edwardes developed it. He created a short-legged white terrier strain, primarily using Jack Russell types with genetic contributions from breeds like the West Highland White, Dandie Dinmont, and Bull terriers. Edwardes intended to produce a dog that could work alongside his Otterhounds, going to ground after otter, badger, fox, and polecats. Though its popularity as a show dog and companion has dwindled since the 1930s and 40s, these plucky terriers remain a testament to their working heritage, celebrated even today.
