About the Sloughi
The elegant Sloughi is a sighthound breed from North Africa, originating in countries like Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, and Libya, bordering the Mediterranean. Desert types were typically lighter in build than those found in mountainous regions, and the breed likely arrived in Europe following the French occupation of Algeria. This lean sighthound shares some characteristics with the Saluki, possessing evident pinbones and a sweeping underline, and naturally carries very little subcutaneous fat, which served as a cooling mechanism in its desert homeland. It's a truly distinctive and graceful dog.
