About the Spaniel (Cocker)
This delightful spaniel takes its name from its initial role, hunting woodcock. For many years, these dogs, alongside other spaniels of the land type, were grouped together and later categorised by size and colour, with the Cocker Spaniel being formally recognised as a distinct variety in 1893. They were specifically developed for their suitability in working particular terrains, with a requirement that they weigh under 25 lbs. Known affectionately as 'the merry cocker', this breed's ever-wagging tail truly reflects its cheerful disposition, making it a hugely popular family companion today.
