About the Staffordshire Bull Terrier
The Staffordshire Bull Terrier shares ancestry with the Bull Terrier, developed in the 1860s for vermin control and blood sports. While James Hinks refined the Bull Terrier, devotees of the original type, from which the modern 'Staffy' descends, remained loyal to their preferred dogs. Recognised by The Kennel Club in the 1930s, this breed's name reflects its origins in the Staffordshire and northern Birmingham areas. Despite its tough beginnings, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is renowned as a wonderful family pet, celebrated for its intelligence and affinity with children.
