About the Whippet
The elegant Whippet, a breed with a long history stretching back to the Middle Ages, is thought to have descended from the Greyhound. By the 19th century, it was well-established in Britain, originally bred for hunting small game and controlling vermin, which later evolved into a popular gambling sport, particularly in the mining communities of the North and Wales. These lovely dogs are known for their graceful lines and smooth, efficient gait. Today, while racing continues on a small scale, the Whippet is a much-loved family companion, cherished for its gentle and affectionate nature and its enjoyment of home comforts.
